Hello Ohio D.A.R.E. Officers!February 2012: D.A.R.E. America reports that the new Elementary keepin’ it REAL curriculum is in the final phases of completion and should be ready in late spring. The actual curriculum, workbooks and videos should be available for distribution at that time. D.A.R.E. Instructors are required by D.A.R.E. America to attend a certification training in order to teach this new curriculum. The D.A.R.E. Ohio Training Center has scheduled three keepin’ it REAL Elementary Curriculum trainings in Ohio. These are the only training dates that will be offered in Ohio in 2012 and all three training dates will take place before the school year begins in fall 2012.
DARE officers teaching the elementary curriculum must attend ONE OF THE THREE trainings in order to be certified to instruct the new curriculum. D.A.R.E. Instructor curriculum and classroom DVD will be distributed at the trainings. The first opportunity for elementary keepin’ it REAL training is during the D.A.R.E. and SRO Combined Conference in June 2012 at Maumee Bay State Park Lodge. If you have registered or will be registering for the June Conference, the elementary keepin’ it REAL training is included in the registration fee. If you are NOT planning to attend the Conference you can register for the four hour elementary keepin’ it REAL training ONLY (Tuesday, June 26, 2012, 1:15- 4:15 p.m.) at Maumee Bay State Park lodge. The registration fee for each of the three elementary keepin’ it REAL training is $50. Please Note: DARE America mandates: “As previously announced and in keeping with established practice, all D.A.R.E. programs will have one year from the date of availability of the new D.A.R.E. kiR elementary student planner to complete transition to the new curriculum.” To download a registration form click here or to register online click here.
