** Please Note: As of the end of July 2010 the September 20- October 1 Ohio DARE Officer Training class has only a couple spots open. Per the application guidelines assignments to the DOT are made on a first come basis when ALL FOUR SECTIONS OF THE APPLICATION PACKET ARE TURNED IN AND COMPLETE. Applicants that are accepted into DOT will receive a "DOT Confirmation" letter. In fairness to all registration slots can not be "held".**

Location: OPOTA (London, OH)

The DOT format will include training in the: DARE K-4 Program, Elementary Core Program and the Middle School Program titled keepin’ it REAL. To be eligible, a police officer must be a sworn full-time officer with two years uniformed street experience in their current department OR a sworn full-time officer with a total of two years uniformed street experience, who has successfully completed the current departments imposed probationary period. The Officer must have no sustained disciplinary actions within the past three years OR be involved in a current departmental investigation.

A Statement of Commitment must be completed by both the Police Department and School Superintendent. The Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police and the Law Enforcement Foundation, Inc. will cover all* training costs and materials for Ohio DARE Officers at OPOTA. Room Accommodations (DOUBLE OCCUPANCY) and meals are provided for the duration of the 80-hour training (classroom). Please note that Officers are assigned evening homework and group work which add additional time commitment to the two week training. Transportation costs to and from the Academy are not included. The application and all paperwork/information must be received by the application deadline of August 15, 2010 before an Officer will be scheduled for the Training (DOT).

*A $50 fee will be collected from the law enforcement agency for a group Interaction Dinner on the first Monday of training, for the Training Banquet held on the final Thursday evening of DOT and to cover the cost of a DVD used to video the student’s final presentation.
